Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine

Acupuncture is the stimulation of specific points on the body which have the ability to alter biochemical and physiological reactions to achieve a healing effect. Stimulation of these points:

  • Increases blood circulation
  • Increases the release of neurotransmitters
  • Increases the release of neurohormones (some of which are endorphins, the body’s own “natural pain-killing” hormones)
  • Improves the energy flow of the body
Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine can benefit the following problems:
  • Musculosketal disorders, such as arthritis and nonsurgical intervertebral disc disease, which manifest as lameness and pain. Often with the use of acupuncture we can reduce or eliminate the need for chronic medications.  Decreasing amounts of medications, especially pain medications and steroids help to decrease their potential harmful side effects.
  • Decreased energy and appetite in elderly pets.
  • Recurring or chronic conditions such as gastrointestinal problems, allergies, infections, and/or chronic organ failure.
  • Decreased energy and appetite due to cancer.  It helps to decrease pain in these animals, as well as reducing the side effects of chemotherapy.
  • Behavior problems.
